Felt like a hat full of ass on the ride in. This has been the norm, while the ride home is always a breeze. It's like climbing without a warm-up for fifteen miles. Both directions start with heavy traffic and a hill, so I'm thinking it's related to hopping on so close to waking.

Anyone experience this/have thoughts/suggestions?

Ride the trainer to warm up before going outside? Move?  :D

FINALLY!  1st commute to work since getting hit.  It was a humid, sweaty, 71 when I left at 5:30,  Got passed by 4 cars in the first 15 miles, nice!  Coming through the park, I was going the wrong way on a one way road (which I, and many other cyclists do often) and the ranger pulled me over, told me bikes need to follow the same rules as cars.  I admitted that I knew that, apologized and thanked him for enforcing the law properly.  I will have to take the mup from now on through the park, - http://app.strava.com/activities/62718488

Good advice. I swapped wheels on my 'cross bike this AM. Much spinnier, much more comfortable with a backpack, much more of an opportunity to warm up. Forgot I was on cantis and blew a (deserted) light at the bottom of a hill, felt like a jerk.

How did the ranger respond to your genial, apologetic approach?

Nice, good thing you didn't get creamed blowing that light, canti's suck.

He was very nice and polite, but made it clear he doesn't tolerate breaking the rules of the road.  I'd rather him have done that then ignore cyclists.

When I left work, it was raining and windy and I could see lightning in the distance, I got pretty wet and the roads were like ice, then after about 12 miles the skies cleared.  I have a nice commuting backpack with a waterproof cover that can be pulled out and goes over the whole thing, thankfully or my laptop would have been toast.

Oh man, is it an Osprey bag?

I drove today. We're getting raw-dogged by thunderstorms and my only safe route across town is way too sketchy to deal with both at once.

best commuting bag I have is Marmot Kompressor... weighs about 1 lb, perfect for everything but a laptop

No, it's this bag which is not $40 and I paid $80 in march :banghead: http://www.rei.com/product/825298/novara-eta-backpack,-chili-powder/castlerock?preferredSku=8252980001&cm_mmc=cse_froogle-_-pla-_-product-_-8252980001&mr:referralID=bd46e133-df20-11e2-9389-001b2166c62d  Fits a 15inch laptop perfectly and has enough room for some clothes, but it's pretty small overall.  It's perfect for what I need, I usually leave clothes at work.

Likewise on the t-storms, yesterday was pretty bad when I would have been riding home, today, more are expected.

Haven't been able to ride in all week due to threat of storms. Sucks. I'm not a fan of being near lightning.

Ick. We might be storm free Saturday. Where's the sarcastically enthused smiley?

I think the area MTB trails have been open a total of about 10 days this whole season. Been horribly wet. :(

On a positive note, the Jetta displayed 50.5MPG for the drive in this morning :)

Post nuclear war ride into work today. Felt like everyone had died. I got rolling out at 5:30am, a few minutes later than usual. Had to reserve a Disney restaurant when I got out of bed; you know, priorities. After a few miles it dawned (pun partially intended) that I had yet to get passed by a single car. So, I was aware of that as I enjoyed the silence of my lonely ride into work. Gorgeous sunrise, comfy temp - right around 60 degrees, and birds singing like mad.

Made it 14.6 miles out of the 16.7 to work before a car passed me. The last bit of my ride is on a relatively busy road, but only 5 more would pass me by the time I got to work.

That was nice :)

Sounds like a beauty of a ride.

We're heading there just after New Years. Should drain the slush fund substantially...
