OK you Linux super geeks... I am fairly new to linux and as you know the only beef I have with it is that I can not stream Netflix.  Any thoughts on ways around that?  I have an old xp system that I use now but it would be nice to be able to use my Ubuntu system.

Grab the Windows key from your old XP system, shut it down for good, install a virtualization product on your Ubuntu system, install XP as a guest with your key. You may have trouble with device conflicts with the two operating systems running simultaneously. Your host system will need the horsepower to run the guest and stream at the same time.

I work in IT...geek enough?

Nope. I work with complete idiots that are in IT. It appears they got in during the tech boom when there were more jobs than bodies. They don't know jack **** about anything and only seem to know how to write nice fluffy emails.

Not saying you're an idiot. I just see plenty of situations where IT != Geek.

Do you own a Wii?

shovelhd's suggestion is good. Try virtualization. Given enough horsepower, it should work. I like Virtualbox.

Sounds like it :)

I was thinking I was alone given the amount of idiots here....that we had vacuumed the employment landscape free of mindless asskissers. But, I am wrong. Enjoy your inept coworkers!

I don't think the system I am using with have the horse power for the virtualization, I am one of those guys who trys to see just how many years a system will run.....  I think it is time for a new system.  The laptop has got to be 6 or 7 years old... maybe older.

No Wii..  Not a game player.  Never have been.

I mostly use my system for PHP programming/browsing which doesn't take a lot of CPU and the reason I have been able to keep the same old system for so long.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I kind of knew about these but one thing I have learned in my years in IT, you learn something new every day.

CompUSA (TigerDirect) has had some killer barebones deals lately. $300 for a quad core system.

Ok yeah, I hear you. I'm in a company of about 4600 employees and there are a few that make me wonder. Then there's the vendors we have to deal with...don't get me started there.

Sounds like a good starting point. They usually have some great deals.

I think there's going to be some kind of a plug in offered for chrome that will let Netflix run in it, which will run natively in the browser, or something...doesn't work on linux yet, but apparently will at some point.

I could entertain you for hours with the brilliance that takes place here from our crack IT Staff, such as:
We don't need IP addresses for network printers...
Claiming Apple is not a tech company
Plugging phones into network jacks, done by the network ops guy
Dude sleeping at his desk for hours 2 days after getting talked to about sleeping at work
Another dude who decided to nap in his boss's office and was still sleeping when the boss arrived to work

I work at a circus
