There could be a few options (how critical is 4lb?  Will sub 6 work?) (not in any order):

ATIV Book 8 (NP880Z5E) | Samsung Laptops

Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS VivoBook S550CA - ASUS

Inspiron 15 7000 Series Aluminum Laptop Details | Dell

Always go for a SSD if possible.

My colleagues are giving me **** about the weight of my current laptop (HP G71 - 7 pounds) so, if all else is equal, I'm going to be a little bit weight weenie on the next one.

The Lenovo T440s looks interesting.

What's everybody's favorite laptop under $1500?

Sub-4lb, at least 12" screen. Windows 8.1.

Lenovo

Lenovo

lenovo are cool, asus and msi too.

I would stay the hell away from ACER unless you like cheap plastic, loud physical clicks when you touch anything. Dell is average but somewhat good. Better than ACER that's for sure. I used to have a HP laptop, it was great until it crapped out and from what I've heard, it's pretty common from HP to be awesome till they crap out.

There are other brands but I haven't looked at laptops in a serious while so I can't be of much help.
Challenge it because it is unreachable.

We got new HP Elitebook 840's at work, they are thin and light, not bad.
