Tri Race Reports
« on: April 17, 2011, 03:42:18 PM »
Figured we should get a race report thread going.

Today: Rumpass in Bumpass Sprint (750/12mi/5k).

Did pretty well.  Seems like slow times overall.  Swim was a bit long.  Bike was windy plus they had the mount/dismount line about 100-150 yards from the timers....so lots of transition time got added to the bike.  Plus, in poor shape...all of my speeds were lower than the olympic I did last September and it's only half the distance.  :picard:

32/420 men, 5/42 in the 25-29.  Got pipped at the line because I didn't listen to the person yelling at me from the sidelines.  Either way, no points for 4th either, and was a minute+ off third.

Swim 13:40, 5/42, 47/420
 Bike 34:59, 5/42, 40/420
 Run 20:53, 8/42, 49/420

The running needs some work.  Been spending all my time in the pool and on the bike.  Need to be running at least a minute faster.  Swimming also needs some work...haven't ingrained some of the new stuff I've learned into my stroke.  All in all, not bad for the first race of the season.  And a severe wake up call to start running more often.

Next up, practice race in May...then an 'A' olympic race in June.

I also saw the ultimate tri gear geek.  Cervelo p3.  Carrying no less than 100 ounces of fluid....two bottles behind the seat, one on the downtube, and a profile AeroDrink.  For a 12 mile ride.  I was carrying about 10oz of water (half a bottle).  He also had two CO2s and a few other things hanging off his seat with the two bottles.  I'm not sure what the hell he was doing.

I'm thinking about signing up for one towards the end of May and or another one in June. But, I'm nervous about it.

No need. Especially with sprints, there are people of all abilities. Just enjoy yourself.

You're just jealous that it's not a dualthon race report thread, so you can't contribute.

Sprint tri this weekend in Jekyll Island. Beautiful place.

I was in the 8th wave for the swim. OWS was really, really difficult. I swam the whole way with my head above the water  :( Definitely need to work on that more.

Had a good bike split, but about 3 miles from the finish my saddle post dropped and killed my speed and legs.  :( again

Run was fine, nothing too interesting there. Felt a little sluggish on the back end as the aid station only had water and no nutrition. All in all though, it was a fun event and I had a good time.

Results aren't up yet, so I have no clue what my time was.

1.28:21 overall time.

Timing is weird because the walk from the swim to T1 was far and they counted your "swim" time all the way up until T1.

It was slippery.
