Did our monthly training tri this morning.  400m swim, 16.8mile bike, 3.2 mile run.  All the fast people stayed home, so I was the second person to finish (90ish people).  It's a staggered start in a pool, so I'm not really sure where everyone else near me started and what an actual "place" was.  Probably beat the guy that finished first, but lost to a person or two behind me who started later.  No times yet, but felt great on the run.

Legs still felt pretty good afterward, but my lungs limited me on the course.  Been doing lots of shorter fast stuff, especially on the bike, so I guess that's a sign I need to start going longer and build up some more endurance.

Race  Report: Failure.  Flatted 5 miles into the bike, pinched the backup tube rushing it.  Changed plenty of tires but not when I've got a huge HR and rushing to save time.      Walked 3 miles back.  One of my two A races for the year so I'm a bit bummed, but I'm off to go watch the final round of the US Open with my dad on fathers day, so that should help:).

Hot hot hot.  93 by 10am.  91* river temperature (!!!).  13 minutes off my PR for olympic distance.  Just got completely wilted in the hot weather on the run.  Walked even.  I haven't walked on a run in years.

91* water.  It was hotter than the air when we started (air temp only topped that by the end).  I don't think I've ever swam in water within 10* of that.  I think that's a good part of what destroyed me in this race.

With the heat transferrence in water, I suspect you were really dehydrated by the time you got out of the water.  Then it is hard to catch up.  Not very easy to drink while you are swimming, I was doing a lot of that when I first got back to swimming  :D

Running race report.  Went Sub-40 in the 10k finally at the Beach to Beacon.  39:26.  With the generally good weather (summer in Maine), it's usually one of the fastest 10k's in the country each year, but I'll take it either way.  Set a 5k PR along the way...19:2something.  Last mile has some decent hills compared to an otherwise fast rolling course, and was 20+ seconds slower than any other because of that, otherwise I might have been flirting with 39.  Sub-40 was one of my goals for the year, so it's good to come through on my training after my other races haven't gone nearly as well as I think they should have.

Of course, the Olympic 10k bronze medalist (track) and former world record holder was there, and won.  He beat me by nearly 12 minutes.  That's humbling.  My shoes were snazzier though.

If it's any indication of my paleness, that's me after spending an entire week at the beach.  A testament to the effectiveness of SPF50 I guess.  I look happy but was suffering (my mom was the photographer, and just saw her).  Probably not as much as that guy next to me.  Now THATS a suffer face.

I was able to  switch some stuff around and signed up for one this weekend. It's OWS so I'm excited.
