Arcadia sprint aqua bike:

First the good:  got to meet Makel, she passed me on the bike (but I have an excuse!). But I passed her right back a half mile down the road.
I had a decent bike leg despite the fairly hilly course

Now the bad:  I finished DFL out of 9 guys. The winner did the swim in 7min40 sec or so. Mine was over 15 min. Total fail. I got swum over and swallowed a ton of nasty water. I was nauseated the rest of the swim. The water was very warm too so I was more dehydrated after the swim than I expected to be.  Live and learn.
On the bike, I discovered that my deraileur issue is more effed than I thought. Dropped my chain not once but twice (in12 miles!) both times I needed to dismount. I figure I lost 4min or so total plus the time to get back to speed on the hills (constant up and down of 5-8% grades)

I finished the bike leg 4th out of 9 despite my issues so not a total fail ( except my swim)

Makel looked good on the bike. But I don't know how her run went since I didn't see her after the race

I had a great time and think I am hooked

Good job, Ru. The first OWS event is usually the worst   :)

No shame in DFL, sounds like you just had a couple things working against you. How far was the swim?

Jen 500m

I think I'm gonna do an open water 1 mile swim race in a few weeks to test myself. I'm nervous about the 1/2IM

Cause you took off!!  I hope you got some watermelon is was awesome.

I kept you in my eyesight for the last couple miles, you didn't get that far ahead... BTW, I very much enjoy passing males up hills.

jus sayin  :P

My run was great, despite the hills, I went 30 seconds faster per mile than my goal was. I think I'm getting better at pushing myself on the run, or maybe it's just less painful.

I'm kind of miffed, a lot of the females that normally would have done the tri, wound up doing aquabikes or relays. Only 35 of us did all three, I should have done lighthouse.

Hey RU,

I almost bit it on that turn. My back wheel fishtailed and I let some choice words fly.

Only 35 women?   That is just silly with as many women who were there. Only 9 guys did the aqua bike so there were a few hundred who did the full race.

I hung around for a half hour had some watermelon and a banana. I had a two and a half hour drive home. I needed a shower and real food
