Where's the BEEF!
« on: May 09, 2011, 01:03:07 PM »
I've been wondering if I consume enough or to much protein. I'm going to try and keep track for the next few days.

I did come across this formula:

1. [take]Your weight in pounds.

2. Divide your weight by 2.2 to determine your weight in kg.

3. Multiply this by 1.2 to 1.8 to determine your daily protein intake/needs in grams.
                                                                                            (Kuitse,Amy: beginnertriathlete.com,20110429)

At first I thought it seemed high, but then I remebered that I drink probably 24 -16grams a day in milk, and my breakfast of greek yogurt and protein granola allegedly has 10grams. It may not be high after all.

How do you guys keep track or do you even bother?

I used to be a gram counter..got the scale etc.  Now I kinda just eat what my body tells me it needs...but on whole I'm on a 60/30/10 diet with carbs being the 60%.  That may fluctuate with cravings but seems to work.  Since my UC flare up I've been consuming more protein than normal though...really felt the cravings for it over the last month.

I'm noticing a huge difference in my muscle fatigue if I don't consume a large amount of protein the evening prior. The ammonia smell in my nose is starting to become a normal thing after almost every ride or long run. Also, if I don't consume at least 15 grams of protein after a medium long/long workout my muscles are stiff and sore the next morning.
