MidgetMaestro's Build Thread
« on: April 02, 2014, 11:53:56 PM »
Alright, so we're building content right? Everyone make a thread about your road/mtb/whatever bike builds...we wanna see them!

For now, I'll start with this:

This was taken today right before a ride with my best friend....he has a 2007 CSC R3 so we're calling them "the siblings" since I have a 2007 CSC Soloist Carbon. Somehow my chain managed to bork itself about 5 miles in.

To start with, this bike started out as an ebay link, jokingly sent to my friend. We worked out a deal, and 38 minutes later, I had a very early birthday present ordered for a steal!

It arrived in standard bike shop packaged fashion....I threw it together with the stock parts just to ensure that everything was there and worked .etc, then came the time to have fun :D. Among many other things, this poor Soloist had a rough life in the hands of its previous owner. The crank had such great quantities of grit, and barely any grease on the splines that it took a half hour of soaking in simple green for it to release without effort!

Anyhow, everything got cleaned up and we were speeding along on the build road....next up was cables and housing. The FD cable went in without issue....but the RD cable decided to be a considerable pain in the ass! I eventually was able to get a stiff brake cable through the frame (no guide housing inside for internal routing, just the carbon frame) to the BB shell, attached fishing line, pulled it back through and then guided the shift cable down with the fishing line. All in all a very easy build.  :)

Damnit MM, have you learned nothing during your time here?  Chain must be in the big ring for bike photos!

Yeah yeah yeah, it was an informal photo op. Once the new chain comes, I'll whip out the good camera and take some real shots.  :P
