2015 Race Results
« on: March 23, 2015, 01:46:07 PM »
Someone has to start this...

Yesterday was my clubs first "race" of the year.  It didn't go as planned...

I rode to the start and was nice and warmed up by the time I got there.  I ended up being ~15 minutes early and by the time we got going I wasn't warm anymore (it was maybe 30 degrees..) after the shorter (and harder) than normal neutral section and as things started to pick up, with a combination of being in the wrong part of the group and my leg starting to hurt, I missed jumping in with the front group.

Ended up riding with 3 other guys, but had to drop off of them when my leg started to hurt even more..a few minutes riding easy and it was like something clicked and my leg/hip was suddenly fine.  Frustrating.  Picked it up and caught back up to the 3 guys I had been riding with.  They decided to do the short version of the course (remember, this isn't really a race..more like a hard group ride) and I wasn't going to ride the next 35 miles by myself so I went with them.  The short course ended up being 40 miles instead of the 53 for the normal route.

It was frustrating that my leg started to hurt like it did, but I think it was from the cold and standing around too long waiting to start after riding there.  I need to time my warmups a lot better for my first few races while it is still chilly.  At least it happened here, and not at some race I had to travel to and pay more than $5 for (our races are insured through usa cycling, so we just pay the per rider insurance fee).  First real race is going to either be first weekend of April if I don't have to work that Saturday, or the following weekend for sure.  Looking forward to them.

Tour of St. Louis

-13th in the TT.  Set a 20min PR. That's a good sign.
-Got caught behind this in the first crit
-Was a little too deep for the end of the 2nd crit, snagged a top 20.

Have the fitness, technique is off.

Nice work on the 20min PR, Tim! That is about the only thing TT's are good for, in my opinion.

Good point. Also why I am not good at breaking away, because I don't TT. Perhaps....?

depends, is the issue getting into the break or the issue staying in the break?

Nice work.  It's always the nice wide safe courses where people crash the most, smh.

No room for it to break apart. Early season fitness.  I hate those types of courses.

2 weekends and 4 races into the season.  11 cat 2 upgrade points.  How did that happen?

Could have had a few more even but in the cat 3/4 crit Sunday, 2nd race of the day, CDR and I (and a 3rd racer who was going to do the P123 immediately after) had a friendly competition to see who could finish the face on the fewest watts.  This was a tremendous exercise and I recommend it highly!  I "won" the game with 181w AP and even contested the field sprint but I went a couple seconds too late, lulled into complacency, and only got 7th place, one place out of the points.

P123 RR tomorrow.  Overachiever status likely to end.

I raced today...

Got caught up behind a crash ~15 minutes in on the prime lap and couldn't close a gap to get back to what ended up being the second group.  Ended up riding the rest of the hour on my own.  Eff

The good news is my leg was fine.

I'm thinking about going back and doing the last race in this series next Saturday.  Although the race yesterday started out (and seemed to last) harder than last year...I actually felt fine, until that damned crash.   I've finished here twice without too much trouble, and I'm a little disappointed with yesterday..although there really isn't a whole lot you can do when people start going down and fanning across the road in front of you

With big numbers, it's good to see you guys give the business to the others in the race.  That doesn't always happen.

Nice job speciale.  That's not just winning.  Crush your enemies.  See them driven before you.  Hear the lamentations of their women.
