Have you ever raced cross?  There's a reason for the call ups...

also, if one has never won, they should refrain from ****ting on someone else's win.

Not to pile on, but starting position is ridiculously important in a crowded cross race and callups are standard -- usually done either by local association results (eg nycross) or cross-results.com ranking.

Having said that, I wasn't aware there was a cat 5 in cross?

for reference, i did a race with a field about half the size (~60 as opposed to >100) a few weeks ago but due to a mistake on the website used for staging (cross-results.com, it didn't credit me with my points from last season because I changed teams) I was staged on the last row and only made it up to 7th. last night i was staged on the front row and led from the first lap on. it matters. a lot.
You can be the strongest guy in the field but if you don't know how to use it, when to use it, and have the b*lls to use it at the right time, you'll lose.

please tell me more about how I was ****ting on someone else's win.

Also tell me what me winning has to do with thinking it's weird to have call ups in a 4/5 race.

And why are you always so quick to throw things in people's face?

I didn't even make the connection that this was about a cross race, guess I missed the "cx" in the post or glazed over it thinking it was an acronym for something else pertaining to the name of the race.

Makes sense.

I read

Lol call ups in a 4/5 race.

as saying a 4/5 race wasn't worthy of call ups. If it's a lesser race, that diminishes the win.

I'm quick to say what I think because I don't mind defending my rationale or changing my stance if I am wrong. It's not about you. It's about letting Mikey savor a win against a big field.

Call ups are, imo, something that is reserved for state, national, or world champions or those with storied histories worthy of being singled out from the rest. Those guys are not cat 4/5.

Of course all of that thought was based on this being a crit. It's a cross race so I probably just don't understand. Besides, I said "good job".

I've never seen it in a 4/5 race either, round here they stage CX races based on numbers which are given in the order you reg, so if you reg 1st you get number 01, 401 etc.  Then they stage in numerical order.  In CX racing, start does matter, probably even more than in easy crit races.
WC is the Debil.

I don't feel like vl was "diminishing" anything I just don't think he understands the importance of staging in cross races. I wouldn't have before I started racing either.

Two crits today:

Cat 4 got 7/56(?) there was a big crash next to me in the sprint and someone rolled into my bike, didn't do anything other than suck the wind out of my sail so I sat up. We got the win and third as a team.

Cat 3/4 dnf. I got a flat 35 minutes in, I'm not going to run down a race course and try to get a new wheel on before the guys come around again, that's stupid to me. So I don't take wheels and say "I don't want to flat but if I do my race is over" I'll get over it, it's not that big of a deal. There was a three man break I wasn't in but I got a good workout.

Racing wise I picked up where I left off before my crash I think.

I think the key is to ride the flat very slowly to the pit and then you get your lap once you're there to change the wheel.
