You have a powermeter on your commuter bike? Nice.

opposite, the bonus of having a heavy powertap training wheel is that I can move it around on the different bikes. though I often am too lazy and just commute in on the "race" bike w/backpack.

My commuter bike is a 9 speed so moving the PT wheel means changing the cassette. I'll be racing on that wheel a lot at least early in the season because I need the power data. Swapping may not work, but I'll try it.

If I had a bag full of cash I'd put a Quarq on the race bike and move the PT to the commuter, but it might not be a stretch to snag a wired PT/LYC for the commuter and keep it on there permanently. Right now I do my commuter bike workouts by speed and RPE.

The nice thing about here is that it is nice enough year round you don't really need a special commuter bike. I commute on my race bike too, but I only live about 2 miles away. I tend to get lost of my way to work...
 
I do have a "rain" bike though, in my cross bike.

I am considering buying an old tandem and converting it into a utility/grocery bike.


it would need some small ass gears though.


this the shortest way home.  the other ways are all more vertical feet.

Grumpy, mine is not quite that bad. Straight out and back on the flattest route, 23 miles, 1300 ft of climbing, about 400 vertical feet, most on the way home, like you. I often take a long route home, as we have no showers at work or near work.

that climb is littered with 10% sections and some 15%.  carrying an extra 100 pounds would be .... interesting.

since I don't have a bike with a triple it would be cheaper for me to buy this old tandem than to buy another single with a triple crank.

When the daylight is better I do a lot of my training from work. Commute in, train in the hills behind Stanford, go back to office to get my stuff and commute home. It's pretty ideal.

When I first started riding I babied my "good" bike a lot. I am so over that. It's made to be ridden, and relative to the weekend rides commutes are nothing. I'm also lucky enough to have a relatively secure, indoor location to store it, so none of those worries.

I recently made my older alternate bike into a "rain bike" put fender mounts on it for full time, went with a larger frame pump as flats are 10000x more likely on wet roads. It's still a perfectly viable road bike for races though, even rode a double century on it last year.

managed to get some motivation together and did 2:55 on the rollers (all in one sitting just for you speciale) with low cadence high force intervals about 2 hours in. Good day. Not as ideal as riding outside, but much better than not riding at all (and watching old races really makes the rollers more enjoyable). Good stuff. Tomorrow is a travel day back to bodymore city, but I'm looking to get out for 3 relaxed hours on sunday.
You can be the strongest guy in the field but if you don't know how to use it, when to use it, and have the b*lls to use it at the right time, you'll lose.

Practiced my Oreo eating skills today and spent about an hour trying to get a ferrule that had rusted into the canti swivel rather than riding the trainer. Have a three hour ride with a friend planned tomorrow morning before play practice, so looking forward to that and finally getting some outdoor mileage in.

It gave me a saddle sore...I don't even have a fan for my trainer, so I think I'd probably sweat enough to completely saturate my clothing if I rode for three hours
