Title: Post your SS+FG bikes
Post by: mzeffex on January 13, 2011, 11:25:41 PM
I don't have one, but here's one I built for a friend of mine.

:wha: That thing should be ridden on a track. Not the streets...

It's a sweet ride but super uncomfortable. 9 inches of saddle to bar drop, aluminum rims, frame, and fork.

It was a blast!  Raced CAT 2 40+...

29 out of 40, with an additional 13 DNSs and DNFs.  Trail was miserable.  First 4 miles were 90% unridable.  Last 4 miles with 90% ridable.  Kind of a duathalon.  Lost about 8 spots fluggin' with my booties, which I gave up on after about 2 miles in.  Highly recommended race!!

I just bought a se draft lite single speed bike. Flip Flop hubs and both brakes still installed. Does anyone have any reviews?

Are you referring to this bike (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004BSP3W2/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00333INM8&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0VPNHSWAPAPH5RDMYJ4S)?

I'm not much of an SS guy, but looking at the specs, it seems pretty good. Dual pivot brakes will be nice and grabby, and the high spoke count wheels should definitely last you a while.

Thanks. It definitely is comfy. Ultra relaxed geometry and a long wheelbase. Floats down the road.

Zombie thread.  Time to revive it.

Here is my cheapo Schwinn Cutter.  I love it cuz my wife got it for me for Christmas a few years back.  It came as a SS.  After I started breaking spokes last year, I built my first wheel with a flip-flop hub and have ridden it FG ever since.

Hipster as fuuuuuuuuuuuu.

I really do miss having hoods to rest on. Might have to add those at some point.

You are supposed to flip the handlebars. It is cooler that way.

I started my singlespeed fun with this bike, which used to be an old Peugeot mixte frame geared bike. It was built up as a 42x17 SS using modern components. The LBS that built and sold the bike (Edible Pedal here in Sacramento) even made their own decals to mimic a real manufacturer's. They had the frame professionally powder coated yellow.

(http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s66/hardmf1/myEdiblePedalPeugeotmixte42x17singlespeed_zps3dc406ae.jpg) (http://s149.photobucket.com/user/hardmf1/media/myEdiblePedalPeugeotmixte42x17singlespeed_zps3dc406ae.jpg.html)

My riding partner has a 2009 Specialized Langster Las Vegas edition. I found one my size on Craigslist, so I snapped it up. It is faster than my geared road bike, and it's my ride of choice even on long rides of 60 miles or more. It climbs great, so I use it on rides as far up as Rocklin. Any further up in the foothills and I use my geared road bike. My Langster has a 42x16 gear. My riding partner is 48x15 fixed on one side, 48x17 fixed on the other. Here's both of our bikes. Mine is now clipess though (this is an older pic). Mine is on the left.

SS riding has made me quite a bit stronger. I even do hill repeats on my Langster.

That's right, I'm resurrecting this thread again. Because I finally decided on bar tape for the new SS/FG.

2016 Specialized Langster Rio edition.
